Wapsi Palmer Chenille
Wapsi Palmer Chenille is a long-fibre chenille for building full bodies, collars and palmered synthetic hackle. Its fibres add movement and volume, making the material suitable for streamers as well as larger wet-fly patterns.
Construction and use
Secure the core at the front or rear of the hook shank and carry the chenille to the point where the body will finish. Wind it in adjacent turns, sweeping the fibres back before every turn. This distributes the fibres evenly and reduces the chance of trapping them under the thread. After tying, comb the material to open the surface and trim only where the fly outline requires it. Wider spacing creates a fuller profile, while closer turns can form shorter body segments.
- Form: long-fibre chenille designed for winding.
- Profile: broad, mobile body or collar.
- Uses: streamers, wet flies and palmered synthetic hackle.
- Technique: secure the core, then wind while sweeping the fibres back before each turn.
