Wapsi Fly Propellers
Wapsi Fly Propellers are metal propellers mounted on a fly-hook shank. The dimpled blade rotates during the retrieve, adding flash and vibration to the fly; it can be used, among other patterns, in Woolly Bugger-style flies.
Construction and use
Install the propeller on the hook shank during the tying process and secure the assembly so the part remains stable while the blade can rotate freely during the retrieve. Choose its position according to the fly’s construction and where the blade needs to work. Before finishing the thread work, check that the propeller does not interfere with the hook eye, fly materials or point. Its textured metal surface reflects light and moves water, making it useful on patterns where an additional visual and vibrational stimulus is required.
