Wapsi Fly Foam 6 mm

Wapsi Fly Foam 6 mm is a thick, supple sheet foam for cutting large fly bodies, heads and other shaped components. Its tough construction resists thread cuts, making it suitable for parts that need firm attachment while retaining a substantial profile after shaping or sanding.

Construction and use

Choose this thickness when a fuller cross-section or a greater amount of buoyant material is required. Cut strips, blanks or other shapes from the sheet with sharp scissors, a knife, a matching cutter or a suitable punch; the edges can then be sanded. Secure the foam with controlled, broad thread wraps so the thread does not cut into it. A thread base or an adhesive compatible with the foam can help stabilise a component when appropriate. Thickness affects profile and the amount of buoyant material, but the complete fly’s ability to float also depends on the hook, eyes and other dressing weight.
