Wapsi Fly Foam 1mm

Wapsi Fly Foam 1mm is tough, supple sheet foam with an exact thickness of 1 mm. It is intended for slim foam flies and small components, including terrestrials, layered bodies, wings and posts. The material resists thread cuts, making it suitable for tying compact patterns where narrow sections must be secured without quickly damaging the foam.

Construction and use

Choose the 1 mm sheet when a low profile and a modest amount of buoyant material are required. Cut it into strips or shapes with scissors, a sharp knife, a punch or a matching cutter. Secure the piece with controlled, broad thread wraps rather than concentrated pressure; a thread base or a compatible adhesive can help stabilise a component when appropriate. Foam thickness alone does not determine whether a complete fly will float, since the hook, eyes and other dressing materials also affect buoyancy.
