Stonfo Bobtec
Stonfo Bobtec is a stainless-steel fly-tying bobbin holder with slider-controlled thread tension. Moving the slider changes the pressure applied by the arms to the spool, allowing its rotational resistance to be matched to the thread and the tying operation. This is a slider adjustment rather than a disc-drag mechanism. The open-arm construction also makes spool changes quick when switching between thread colours or types.
The standard thread tube ends in a hardened-steel bush. This wear-resistant tip provides a smooth contact point for the thread and helps reduce fraying while it is being drawn under tension. The balanced construction supports an even spin, making the bobbin particularly useful for forming dubbing with the split-thread technique. Controlled rotation helps twist the fibres into a consistent strand before it is wrapped onto the hook shank.
After fitting a spool, check that it turns freely between the arms. Move the slider in small increments until the thread feeds under control without requiring excessive pulling force. Start with lighter resistance for delicate threads and increase the pressure only when needed. The Black and Red variants differ in colour while retaining the same construction and adjustment system.
