Sage Spectrum LT Fly Reel
Sage Spectrum LT is a versatile family of fly reels combining a light, rigid body with a precisely adjustable disc drag. The range was developed for varied fly-fishing applications while retaining the same operating layout and principal construction features throughout. An ergonomic handle and straightforward retrieve conversion allow each complete reel to be configured for left- or right-hand winding.
The frame and spool are made from fully machined 6061-T6 aluminium that is cold forged and tempered to provide a rigid structure while limiting the amount of material required. Hard anodising protects the surface against corrosion and the marks associated with regular use. The extensively cut-away form further reduces unnecessary material while maintaining secure alignment between the spool and frame.
Construction and series character
The large arbor retrieves line quickly and reduces its tendency to retain tight coils after storage. As the effective diameter of the line pack changes less dramatically during a run, the variation in perceived drag resistance is also reduced. A concave, ported arbor adds structural rigidity to the spool. The spool is retained by a screw-tight lock with a knurled nut, providing a secure grip when removing or refitting it.
The SCS drag uses carbon discs housed within a sealed mechanism. Its seals restrict the entry of water, sand, fine grit and salt around the working components. The One Revolution drag knob covers its adjustment range within a single turn, while numbered markings and positive detents make changes easy to judge and help the angler return to a previously used setting. The system is designed for smooth initial engagement and a predictable increase in resistance while playing a fish.
