Sage Maverick Fly Rod
Sage Maverick is a purpose-built saltwater fly-rod family covering applications from rapid presentations to fish moving across shallow flats through to heavier offshore work. Every rod in the family shares a fast-action character developed for brief casting windows, where efficient line pick-up, a quick change of direction and an immediate second presentation can keep the fly in front of a moving fish.
The blank design combines a powerful, responsive tip with markedly stronger lower portions. This configuration carries the casting load deeper into the rod and helps the angler generate the energy required for a quick, efficient delivery. The stout blank also supplies pulling and lifting power when fighting hard-running saltwater fish, including the ability to bring heavy fish towards the surface after they move deep.
Construction and series character
The blank is built with Sage Konnetic Technology. This construction method uses advanced modulus positioning to place carbon fibres within the material to exact tolerances. It produces a slim, responsive profile with high torsional stability, efficient energy transfer and reduced vibration. Within the Maverick design, these qualities support stable tracking, controlled fly-line delivery and the rapid response required when redirecting a cast.
The fittings are specified for saltwater tackle. Oversized Fuji ceramic stripping guides are followed by oversized hard-chromed snake guides and a matching tip-top. The additional clearance is intended to help larger saltwater knots travel through the guide set and reduce the chance of a jam. The reel seat is made from corrosion-resistant anodised aluminium in a matt Slate finish, with a discreet hook keeper integrated into the seat.
A Pacific Blue blank, charcoal primary wraps and light-grey trim wraps give the family its distinctive finish. Maverick rods are made in the USA at Sage’s Bainbridge Island facility in Washington State. Each is supplied with a black rod bag carrying a titanium-coloured logo and blue model tag, together with a matt-black, powder-coated aluminium tube bearing a Sage medallion.
