Rio Powerflex Wire Bite Tippet
RIO Powerflex Wire Bite Tippet is a braided, nylon-coated wire for making the terminal section of a fly-fishing leader when targeting sharp-toothed species. Its tough yet flexible construction helps reduce the risk of a fish cutting through the leader, while remaining supple enough for practical presentation of pike flies and other predator patterns.
The wire is knotable, allowing it to be tied directly to the fly and connected to the rest of the leader. Used as a short protective section between the fly and a tapered leader or heavier tippet material, it provides a straightforward alternative to more complex terminal connections. Knots should be tightened carefully, tag ends trimmed with a suitable tool and each connection checked before fishing.
Each spool contains 15 feet of material. Choose the breaking strain in the selector according to the size and weight of the fly, the intended presentation and the fish being targeted. Inspect the section nearest the fly regularly, particularly after contact with teeth, and replace it if the wire becomes kinked, abraded or otherwise damaged.
