Hareline Large Leather Amadou Dryer is an amadou fly dryer made for drawing moisture from waterlogged dry flies. The absorbent amadou takes water from hackles, wings and bodies, helping a fly regain its shape and return to the surface more quickly. It is particularly useful for delicate CDC patterns, though its larger working area also accommodates more substantial dry flies.
To use it, place the wet fly between the amadou surfaces and press them together gently. Heavy squeezing is unnecessary and may distort fine hackles; a few light presses are normally enough to draw out the moisture. The fly can then be teased back into shape and, where appropriate, treated again with a suitable floatant before being returned to the water.
The large format offers convenient handling across a range of fly sizes, while the leather outer protects the back of the absorbent material when the dryer is carried in a fishing vest, bag or pack. After a session, leave it open and allow the amadou to dry thoroughly before storage. Keeping it closed while damp will reduce its readiness for the next outing.
