Dr Slick Scissors
Dr Slick Scissors is a family of individually selected fly-tying scissors built for different stages of dressing a fly. The available variants differ in frame length, blade profile and weight, and tip shape. Each has gold finger loops and one serrated blade, which helps limit material slipping during a cut. The stated lengths of 3.5″, 4″ and 4.5″ refer to the complete scissors, not the blade length.
The Arrow Point, General Purpose, Hair and Micro Point models are made from Japanese 410 stainless steel hardened to HRC 45. Razor uses thin, straight blades made from 440 J2 stainless steel hardened to HRC 55 and includes adjustable tension for changing blade resistance. Selecting a variant provides one pair of scissors, not a tool set.
Differences between the variants
- Arrow Point – Straight 3.5 in: short, fine blades for small flies and detailed work, with a notch at the blade base for cutting wire and lead.
- Micro Point-Straight 3.5 in: straight blades with extremely fine, needle-like tips for delicate details and lightly dressed flies.
- General Purpose – Straight or Curved 4.0 in: medium-length blades for varied tying tasks; the curved version helps guide cuts around a fly’s profile.
- Hair Straight 4.5 in has long, heavier blades for hair and tougher materials, while Razor – Tension Adjust 4.0 in combines a thin cutting edge with adjustable tension.
