Dr Slick Ceramic Bobbin
Dr Slick Ceramic Bobbin is a conventional fly-tying bobbin holder with two funnel-shaped ceramic inserts finishing the thread path at the entry and exit of the tube. Their smooth, rounded surfaces help reduce rubbing against sharp edges as thread is wound onto the hook or the tool is rotated around the fly. The stainless-steel and brass construction uses no slider or disc-drag mechanism. Spool resistance comes from the spring pressure of the arms acting through Delrin feet, providing steady, easily judged thread tension once the spool is seated correctly.
The family includes 3.0 in and 4.0 in versions. The shorter bobbin offers compact handling close to the hook, while the longer version provides additional working reach and more room for positioning the tool in the hand. Before tying, seat the spool squarely between the feet and pull out a short length of thread to check that it turns smoothly. If the arm pressure needs correction, make only small, symmetrical adjustments. The ceramic inserts should also be kept clean and inspected regularly, as contamination or surface damage can affect the way the thread runs.
